This organization's purpose is to bring together, monthly, women committed to improving to the conditions in their communities in the USA, the Caribbean and Africa. We welcome new-comers to the District of Columbia and the metro area, particularly those at the African embassies, educational institutions, and the development and international agencies. We work on specific projects to improve the well-being of women and children through fundraising and sponsorship activities. Volunteers are always encouraged. We want to keep abreast of events in the Diaspora through lectures, trips, and seminars.

''I would like us to raise money to be able to expand our outreach to others. This will involve focus on our non-profit status to the full extent possible. We will support each other, learn from each other, and embrace the needs of others through research, collaboration, and funding when appropriate. As we build our financial reserves, we can explore more giving. I wish to have AAWA become a focal point for women's concerns by adding committees on art, health, computer and graphic design, travel, education, web presence, book club, business entrepreneurship, and, most excitingly, a youth committee for girls 12-20 years old.''
Mrs. M. ''Kelly'' Kelly, President of AAWA 2013-2015
